Abstract

Objective: To describe the first documented clinical case of congenital radioulnar synostosis (CRS) in Peru and to highlight the importance of early diagnosis and comprehensive management of this condition. Material and methods: Clinical and radiological evaluation and follow-up of a pediatric patient. Information was obtained through detailed anamnesis, home visits, physical examinations, radiographs and consultations with specialists. Case report: We report the case of a 3-year-old girl with a diagnosis of proximal SRCC, initially identified by her teacher when she observed joint limitations in school activities. Radiographs confirmed proximal synostosis of the right radius and ulna, with supination restriction and motor compensations visible during tasks such as coloring. Despite attempts to access the public health care system, delayed care led the parents to seek private consultation, where deferred surgical management and physical therapy were recommended to optimize functionality. Conclusion: CRS is a rare and understudied condition in Peru. This report underlines the importance of national research to understand its prevalence, associated factors and management, promoting early diagnosis and timely treatment to improve the quality of life of patients.
