Abstract

We report a case of a preterm infant with low birth weight, mother with history of irregular treatment of hyperthyroidism for Graves-Basedow disease, presented at the physical evaluation exophthalmos, difuse fetal goiter and high thyroid hormone levels. He subsequently developed fetal tachycardia, poor weight gain and heart failure as determined by cardiac workup. Hyperthyroidism is a rare entity in the neonatal stage with a high mortality for which early recognition and treatment is essential to ensure the best outcome.
