Objective: Our study's main objective is to determine the diagnostic performance of the pARC calculator to predict appendicitis in pediatric patients between 5 and 14 years of age who present symptoms of acute abdomen and who were treated at the Support Hospital II-2 of Sullana between the years 2021 and 2023.
Materials and methods: The present investigation is cross-sectional, observational and of diagnostic tests, in which a total of 215 medical records of patients treated by the pediatric service aged 5 to 14 years, who met the established selection criteria, were included. With these stories, information was collected through a data collection form and finally the relevant statistical analysis was carried out.
Results: The sample used consisted of 215 medical records. 134 corresponded to male patients and 81 to female patients, of which 185 had a final diagnosis of acute appendicitis, with acute suppurative and gangrenous appendicitis, with 65 patients for each, being the most frequent forms of presentation, followed by perforated (34) and congestive (20). Likewise, our study was able to determine that with a cut-off point of 12%, the pARC calculator had a sensitivity of 91.24% and a specificity of 92.39%. (AUC= 0.993, CI= 95%).
Conclusions: The pARC calculator is a tool that allows predicting with high sensitivity and specificity the risk of a pediatric patient developing acute appendicitis.
