Infant mortality in Huancayo City -Perú, during years 1995 – 2005

Objective: Characterize the geographic distribution of the infant mortality according for study areas in Huancayo City-Peru, over the period of 1995 to 2005.
Methods: An ecological study using a spatial distribution for areas of infant mortality in Huancayo City-Perú. Mortality data were obtained of the Regional Adress of Health of the Region Junin, Peru. The following variables were analized in this study early, late and pos neonatal mortality rates for study areas.
Results: Infant mortality showed a declining trend (–14,9%), mainly in the residential (34,7%) and rural area (20,9%), also in the late (19,7%) and pos neonatal mortality (16,1%), persisting respiratory diseases and perinatal affections the main causes of death.
Conclusions: Spatial analysis allowed to identifying spatial areas Huancayo City-Perú, that have the biggest for the mortality that were area residential and rural and late and pos–neonatal mortality, but it didn ́t reach an appropriate number with reference to other countries of Latinoamerica.
