Breastfeeding and Complementary Feeding, Body HeightAbstract
Introduction: Mothers of 6 months breastfed babies are not able to feed them properly, so they start weaning, reducing that way the large benefits of continued breastfeeding (LMC). Diseases and undernourishment appear as consequences of poor feeding and immunologic vulnerability.
Objective: To evaluate the effect of continued breastfeeding and complementary feeding training in preventing the risk of short stature (RTB) in 12 months old infants, Essalud Pucallpa Hospital II, 2010 - 2011.
Methods: Experimental design. The type of feeding after interview qualified in LMC (only food dairy beverage) and LMNC (other dairy too). Mothers were trained in the intervention group in supplementary feeding; the control group had no training. Their height at 6 and 12 months old and registered in ANTRHO WHO. Were analyzed with SPSS, calculated prevalence of LMC at 12 months old, RTB incidence and risk level established through the RR.
Results: At 12 months old, in the control group (no training) which had LMNC, RTB found 7 times than those with LMC in the intervention group (trained mothers)
Conclusion: The joint application of LMC and training, create a positive synergy for RTB prevention, unpredictable from the values of each applied separately.
