Abstract

We describe a newborn patient affected with Moebius Syndrome whose mother used Misoprostol for abortive purpose at the ninth week of pregnancy, by taking two tablets (400ug) through the oral tract and applying three tablets (600ug) in the vagina without cause miscarriage. It is describe the clinical profile of a patient as well as his evolution up to the discharge day. Also, clinical findings in our patient are compared with cases described in literature. Several hypotheses are postulated concerning the Syndrome’s ethiopathogenesis and its probable association with the use of Misoprostol (Citotec®) during the first trimester of pregnancy with abortive purpose. Misoprostol has been described as responsible of vascular disruption, secondary to its uterus tonic effects with alteration of fetal blood flow which causes hypoxia and hemorrhage.
