Association between respiratory virus and asthma exacerbation in children. Trujillo-Perú

Objective: The respiratory viruses are the main cause of morbidity in children and asthma is a very common chronic disease that affects all the groups of age and is the objective of diverse clinical interventions and public health. The objective of the present investigation was to determine the association between the virus respiratory and the exacerbation of asthma in children under 14 years, taken care of at Florencia de Mora Hospital, Trujillo, Perú. Material and methods: We studied 167 nasopharyngeal secretions of children with asthma. The virology study included the respiratory and the Bierman-Pierson score.
Results: The virus most frequently found were influenza A in 46, 7%, followed by influenza B with 19, 2%. It was observed that the most important exacerbation was the light in both sexes. The whistling was the most important symptom (100%); follow by fever (97%), headache (95.8%), sputum (93.4%), and nasal congestion (88.6%).
Conclusions: We conclude that the association between some respiratory virus and crisis of asthma exists.
