Abstract

Cystic lymphangioma is an infrequent benign tumor of the lymphatic system that usually affects infants. It results from a congenital or acquired vascular malformation of the lymphatic vessels, which prevents the correct drainage of lymph into the venous system with subsequent proliferation and dilation of these.1 It is not a prevalent entity since its incidence is 1 case per 50,000 births, with a similar frequency in boys and girls, without racial differences. 90% are diagnosed in the first two years of life and represent 6% of tumors in childhood.1,2 The location of cystic lymphangioma in the mediastinum is very rare and its frequency is 0.7-4.5% of all mediastinal tumors, hence the relevance of the case presented in this report.
