Celiac disease in children. New challenges

Abstract

The characteristics of celiac disease and the challenges of identification is exposed. The prevalence, pathogenesis, recent criteria related to the clinical manifestations, associations and complications of the disease are described. The current status of diagnosis in the Andean countries, the aspects used for identification and evaluation in childhood and importance to adhesion treatment for being a lifelong disease is emphasized.
