En los últimos años la cirugia neonatalha logrado grandes avances. tanto e n la sobrevida. como en la recuneración de la función de los organos comprometidos. Esto ha sido posible gracias a un mejor conocimiento de la fisiologia del recién nacido, a la disponibilidad de más y mejores exámenes auxiliares para un diagnóstico precoz, a luso racional de anestesicos y analgesicos, al perfeccionamiento de las técnicas operatorias y, en general, al gran progreso en el cuidado intensivo neonatal.
